To Visit Laos in March? The Burning Question!

May 15, 2018by mydustyflipflops9 Comments on To Visit Laos in March? The Burning Question!

Laos had been on the hit list for quite a while.  This time, we thought, this time. We had initially wanted to travel to the south, to see Wat Phou and the 4000 islands. But time was tight and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t make the itinerary work for us. The [...]

Finding My Happy Place

May 10, 2018November 22, 2018by mydustyflipflops33 Comments on Finding My Happy Place

I don't think it's any secret that I love the beach and the sun!  I grew up in the Middle East, on a small island where the sea was usually visible whilst going about your normal routine and the sun shone... a lot! In fact, going to the beach was a part of our normal [...]

Swansea…Australia, that is!

Swansea…Australia, that is!

Swansea is situated just south of Newcastle, at the mouth of Lake Macquarie….which is a bloody big lake! We have stayed in Swansea numerous times now and whilst it’s fair to say that it is quite quiet, I’ve always enjoyed our time there.   We rent a little cottage which has a lovely garden which [...]

An Emotional Sunrise in Laos

March 28, 2018November 7, 2018by mydustyflipflops7 Comments on An Emotional Sunrise in Laos

I sat at the end of the wooden pier, perched on the bottom step, looking out at the scene in front of me. The sun was just starting to peek above the hillside, the mist was curling its way across the surface of the lake. There were a few squeals of laughter and soft splashing [...]

Because I love…

March 12, 2018by mydustyflipflops5 Comments on Because I love…

... A VIEW!!! I don't really love planes though, however, the views on the flight home from my latest travels were just too amazing to miss. For once I was on a day flight and the clouds had parted to reveal panoramic, sweeping landscapes from snow capped mountains, to dusty deserts, to ice sheets as [...]

Newcastle….Australia that is…

January 18, 2018by mydustyflipflops17 Comments on Newcastle….Australia that is…

Hands up who knew there was a Newcastle in Australia?  No?  Of you who did, how many have been there?  That's what I thought!  When I tell people I'm going there I am usually met with a blank face and have to explain whereabouts it is.  Which is exactly what happened to me the first [...]

Goodbye 2017 – let’s get 2018 on the road!

Happy New Year!  So, I’ve been a bit lazy on the blogging front the last few weeks, what with Christmas and all.  The festive season was lovely, but I was pretty tired by the time the holidays rolled around.  Christmas day was spent very quietly with my family and it was lovely, I couldn’t have [...]

Because I love…

December 14, 2017April 8, 2018by mydustyflipflops3 Comments on Because I love…

... KOOKABURRAS! I don't know what it is about these birds, but they fascinate me.  I was lucky enough to see a few on my last trip to Australia. They frequented the garden of the house that we were staying at quite regularly.  They would appear in the early morning and I would sit as [...]

Canine Cheekiness in Myanmar

December 8, 2017by mydustyflipflops2 Comments on Canine Cheekiness in Myanmar

Whilst wandering around the town of Nyaungshwe at Inle Lake in Myanmar, we watched this dog saunter out into the road and then sit down, seemingly oblivious to the fact it would be in the way of the traffic.  I loved the fact that it didn't actually care and would not move.  Happily lounging around, [...]

The last gasps of Autumn! These colours have kept me going through a second lockdown. Walks in the fresh air in lovely scenery have been definite good mood boosters! Beautiful 💕

Preah Vihear, an ancient temple that sits atop a cliff in the mountains on the Cambodia/Thai border. A place full of history which has commanding views across the surrounding area. It's definitely worth a visit! I took a (long!) daytrip there from Siem Reap, read all about my experience on my blog, link in bio!
