This month is set to become the UK’s wettest May on record apparently…and there’s more rain to come!
Oh joy.
It’s been like Autumn out there rather than the hopeful start of summer that this month should be, with the clouds starting to part, the sun increasing in warmth and the mood of the nation starting to lift.
We were lucky last year, it was glorious and blimey did we need it as we grappled with our first lockdown and the initial effects of the pandemic.

This year has been entirely different, the clouds are grey and low, it’s been raining heavily most days and the sun…well, I’m sure it’s there somewhere!
I know it is, because on the odd occasion the clouds have parted, the sun has peeked through, tempting us with its warmth and what could be!

The flowers have still poked their heads out and braved the storms and battering they’ve received this month.
A bit like us.
Lockdown is slowly receding and we are emerging back into the world and I’m feeling beaten and bruised. A feeling of uncertainty for what might still be around the corner lingers. Will we fully reopen on the 21 June, what about this variant, how well will the vaccines work at keeping us all safe as we start mixing again? It’s looking positive but only time will tell.

I keep checking the weather forecast and hoping for better news. We still have some bad weather to contend with, but it is looking very hopeful that it will improve shortly.
As with all storms, they blow over in the end.
Our state (Minnesota) has lifted its mask mandate for vaccinated people, but when you go into a store, there’s it’s totally on the honor system. Unvaccinated people are still supposed to wear them (out of concern for their fellow citizens, not because it’s the law, because it no longer is) but you just don’t know. So it’s been very strange, to say the least. I’m vaccinated, but I still find myself wearing my mask in some stores. It’s gotten to be a habit. I remember when I kept forgetting to BRING my mask to a store, and now I forget that I can go into a store without one. Strange. Hope the weather improves for you soon.

Oh i’ve been reading about this change to mask wearing over there, it must be so strange. I’m not sure how I would feel about it if they did that here, because you are relying on other people to do the right thing aren’t you. I think I would probably still wear mine out of habit too! I’ve had one vaccine and will get my second dose in July, so have a bit of time to wait yet. I would probably be feel better if I was fully vaccinated. It is just such a weird old time isn’t it. I feel like we are all dancing around trying to figure out how we move forward and how we feel about it all! Thanks, I’m hoping the rain will stop soon…it’s looking promising for some sunshine soon hooray! It can’t come soon enough! Stay safe and well and I hope you have a good week!

Congrats on your status as “partially vaccinated.” You stay safe, too.

It’s been the same here in the UK, absolutely horrible weather so far this year.
Last April/May I was on furlough and fortunately the weather from the middle of March through to Summer was glorious. This year however, we haven’t had a single decent day, and have just had two days of strong winds and heavy rain.
I can’t wait to get out, to enjoy some sunshine and to go travelling again.
Soon I hope…

Oh I’m sorry, I should have made it clear in my post – I’m in the UK too 🙂 This weather has just been awful hasn’t it!! I just can’t believe how horrible May has been! Such a difference from last year for sure. It’s looking like it’s clearing up soon though so hopefully we will be able to get out and enjoy the sunshine soon! And oh to go travelling again…it can’t come soon enough can it! Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment, I hope you have a great week!

Poor you. Wish I could send some sun. Strangely, here in coastal British Columbia we are having one of the driest springs with worries that this does not bode well for wild fires later in the season.
We are expecting pandemic restrictions to be partially lifted in the coming weeks. This does not mean I’ll be hopping on a plane anytime soon, but I look forward to travel beyond my local area.

Oh no, sorry to hear you are having the opposite problem, it does show that you should be careful what you wish for doesn’t it. Extreme weather does seem to be turning into the norm these days doesn’t it. So maybe we could do a swap, I’ll send you some rain if you could send us some sun! 🙂 Good news that some of your restrictions are being lifted soon too, I hope you are able to get out and about and enjoy exploring again.
