Happy Sunday

We still find ourselves in strange times.

I am making the most of being at home and getting lots of those little jobs done…you know the ones, you never really want to do them, but when you do it’s quite satisfying! I have definitely found that to be one bonus of being housebound so much, I have concentrated on what is around me.

But my google photos app reminded me recently that this time last year we were enjoying a trip to Turkey, a completely new country for me. And what a fantastic trip it was!

We spent 4 days exploring Istanbul and I was totally won over by it!

Sultan Ahmed Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque
Hagia Sophia
Spice Bazaar
Topkapi Palace

Then we flew down to Dalaman and drove onto Kalkan, for the rest of the holiday. It was the perfect place to rest up, enjoy good food and this…

It was wonderful, but how times have changed since then!

I am, however, extremely grateful that I have all of these lovely memories to draw on at the moment, it definitely helps!

Happy Sunday everyone – I hope you’ve all had a good weekend, wherever you are!

  1. I love Turkey and Istanbul is one of my all-time favourite cities. I’ve been there 4 times, the first time for a week so I feel I got to know it pretty well. We toured by car many years ago and it was a very memorable experience, the friendliness of the people was unbelievable and we seemed to be gifted with oranges wherever we went. My husband even was given a rose by one woman on a bus because he got up and offered an elderly lady his seat – something not done in that part of the world where women were definitely second-class citizens.

    1. 4 times?? You are very lucky! You must have gotten to know it quite well over those trips! How wonderful! I would love to go back, I could completely understand why everyone would rave about Istanbul. We had a fantastic time there! It is such a beautiful country and there is SO much to see! I would love to travel around by train one day. Ah, what a lovely gesture! I had a similar experience on a dolmus, my partner gave up his seat and the lady was so thankful…and so lovely! A wonderful country, lets hope we can return one day soon!

    1. Ah, i’m so glad! These memories are precious particularly at the moment aren’t they. I know we will be able to travel again one day, I’m hanging on those memories in the meantime. I’ve never been to Cyprus, but it is definitely on the list! And I can 100% recommend Turkey and Istanbul, you would not be disappointed 🙂 Have a wonderful week!

  2. Istanbul looks amazing, so vibrant and lively and full of colour. We were supposed to be there back in May as part of a huge backpacking trip but it all got cancelled. Hopefully we will make it back someday. Love your photos.

I hope you do make it one day, there is so much to explore! I would love to travel around the country and see more of it….my list just keeps getting longer 🙂 We just have to wait and see what happens I suppose and make the most of what we have at the moment. 1. Thank you so much for your kind words! I am really pleased we managed to get there last year, it’s a country I would love to return to when we are able to travel again. The shop with the lamps was in the grand bazaar, a great place to explore!
