Posting Travel Content during the Coronavirus Pandemic

I was unsure whether I should post articles about travel at the moment, as we are all trying to deal with the events that are unfolding around us everywhere in the world.

I am mindful that of course travel is just not an option, or a priority, at the moment and with the travel industry in free fall, I didn’t want to be insensitive and post as if nothing is going on.

However, I am personally finding it quite comforting and a bit of release to continue to write about my experiences. But what is at the forefront of my mind as I see the job losses and businesses folding, is that the fantastic places that I visited only a short time ago will now be struggling and going through very difficult times.  And I think of all the amazing people who we met who are probably being hit very hard by the current situation.

When thinking about writing posts about my most recent trip, one of the main reasons for doing so was to share the details of these businesses and their destinations. I hope and pray that they will survive the crisis so that when we are able to travel again, someone might just think of visiting them.

With that in mind I intend to write full reviews of each place we visited to give you a more detailed idea of what experience you could get from visiting them.  The travel industry needs all the help it can get and this is just one small way I feel I can support those who made our trips very special indeed.

Of course, keeping ourselves and our families safe are the most important things to focus on at the moment.

However, one day we will be able to travel again, who knows when or in what shape the travel industry will be in by then. But I for one am enjoying reminiscing about my travels and reading about other amazing destinations, whilst I am cooped up indoors.

These activities are whetting my appetite and giving me so much food for thought as to what I want to see in the world when this is all over!

Travel is my happy place and I think we all need to focus on our happy places in these challenging times!

  1. You are right. One day we will travel again. I don’t think it is insensitive to post about travel. Neither is it insensitive to post about all the glorious things we love and are having to sacrifice right now to save lives – shopping for clothes, parties with friends and family, picnics in the park, football on the beach with friends, hide and seek in the woods, hiking in Snowdonia, discovering new restaurants, drinking coffee with friends on comfy sofas and putting the world to rights.

We love all this…and we are looking forward to all of it again. Everyone is being amazing and shelving their hopes and plans for this year in order to save lives and support the health service. But seeing pictures and reading reports of all that we love about life reminds us – this is what we want for as many people as possible. We want them to live. We are staying at home because we want people to taste life and all its wonderful.

Our wonderful planet, our wonderful human family with its diverse culture and cuisine is something that I’m sure we will love to keep reading about while they STAY AT HOME ❤

  2. I think there is nothing wrong to continue post about travels now as it helps to take everyone away from their confined space. Afterall, there is only so much covid-19 posts you can read to not make you more depressed

    1. Oh thank you so much for your lovely words!! I really can’t wait until I can book another trip, but until I can I am finding comfort and joy in thinking/writing about my past travels and future ones! I hope you are keeping safe and well x

  3. I know some people have expressed outrage that people would still be blogging about travel at this time, but for many of us, planning for, thinking about, writing about, and engaging in travel is our “normal,” and having reminders about what’s normal for us brings us (well, me, at least) hope and comfort. Write what you like. People can always scroll past it if they choose. 🙂

  4. I don’t think there is any problem with posting travel content at this time. The world is going through serious restrictions and so many people are feeling isolated so anything positive with a ‘feel good’ theme has to be worth publishing. We should’t be too obsessed with the pandemic, as long as we are all obeying the recommendations and acting responsibly it is a time for looking at the positives in life. Go for it.

    1. Thank you Jonno! You are right, I think now we are into the lockdowns we are looking for ways to distract ourselves. This is one way of doing that for me and even just thinking about all wonderful places in the world that I hope to visit brightens my day 🙂

  5. I felt the same unease as you about posting about travel. But I’ve come to the conclusion that writing, reading, dreaming about travel is important for many of us…brings a bit of joy and excitement in this scary time.

  6. This whole post resonates so well with me.

I myself just posted a long essay about how this whole pandemic situation that would possibly leave a lasting effect to the way we can travel affects my personal goal of seeing the world more often (and thus to some extent, my motivation to go about with life in general) – just when I thought I finally have the independency to manage my own financial resources and time since I just left school and started working.

I felt so unsure whether or not to post that since SO many people had been impacted by the virus in a much, MUCH worse situation. After careful edits I decided to keep posting it since I know many people would perhaps resonate with the content as well.

So thanks for posting this! And greetings from a new follower! 🙂

  7. Really interesting read – pleased to have found your blog through Alive and Trekking!

I’ve been digging deep into my past travels recently, almost as a form of therapy when I’m cooped up in my small London flat with little idea of ‘what comes next’. Although like you, throughout the past year I’ve become more mindful than ever before of the footprint we leave as tourists (both positive and negative) and what the implications of that might be on future travel.

I can’t wait to be able to explore beyond the doorstep again but when I do, I imagine my mindset will be permanently changed by the pandemic.

Look forward to following more of your posts and seeing what travel will mean for all of us in the future.

    1. Thank you so much Rach and lovely to meet you! I can’t believe it’s almost a year since I wrote this post. I am still enjoying looking at my old photos and revisiting my past travel experiences. I think you have hit the nail on the head, it is a form of therapy isn’t it and a way for me to cope with all of this. Travel brings me great pleasure and I love talking/writing about it, it brings me a lot of joy. Like you I can’t wait to get out there again, but it will be very interesting to see how things develop and how/where we we will be able to travel in the future and what effect all of this has on the industry. Thanks again for reading and commenting 🙂
