… A LAZY BANK HOLIDAY!!
It’s another busy August bank holiday weekend in the UK! A time when the summer is drawing to a close (in fact has finished, if the awful weather we’ve had is anything to go by!), when people make one last ditch effort at a break before the kids go back to school. It’s got to be one of the busiest times of the year, with roads snarled up for hours on end. And it marks the end of a busy and event filled summer for me.
Which is why this year I decided to take the Friday off and give myself a whole four days at home pottering around, with a lovely family lunch thrown in for good measure.
Having a day off work to spend at home is a bit unusual…and usually feels like a bit of a waste to me! However, this weekend has been different. I gave myself permission to spend Friday on my own, doing whatever I wanted. It was definitely needed.
I am surrounded by people all day at work. A never-ending stream of interacting with people. And whilst this is usually fine, sometimes, I get people overload. I need some time when I don’t have to talk to anyone, time where I can just be myself, reflect if necessary, but definitely recharge. I need time out. Is that insular? Introverted? I don’t know, but it’s definitely necessary from time to time for me to keep a balance, physically and mentally.
That’s why Friday was so lovely. I pampered myself, I started the day with some yoga, before having a nice soak in a bath (with a face mask for good measure!). I walked to the local shops to get myself something nice to have for lunch as a treat. I then spent some time in the afternoon working on my blog, it was lovely to have the time to actually sit down and focus on it properly.
I have a similar day ahead of me today (as unfortunately my partner has to work) – what shall I do? I’m not sure yet, but I’m just going to take the day as it comes, see what I feel like doing… or not as the case may be.
Not doing is sometimes as necessary to me as doing.
Absolutely loving that I don’t have to work today! Enjoy 🙂

No doubt about it, when you work you need that ‘time out’. 🙂 🙂 I still like my own personal space sometimes, too. I have great conversations in my head if I’m walking on my own. Wishing you a lovely day of doing absolutely anything… or nothing 🙂

Thank you so much – it was a very restful day (even if I did have to do some chores!). I think it is needed from time to time isn’t it. I do the same when I go for walks or even when I’m pottering around on my own at home 🙂

We call it a “Staycation” here … and I think that the change of pace is as necessary as going to far places for a change of scenery. May it be as good a break as you need it to be!
Having myself just returned from a far away trip (with jetlag to match), I am relishing the slower pace of re-entry even as the pace picks up in time for the school year’s beginning. Breath is a good thing to take.

Thank you! Yes, it was lovely and I feel quite restored after it, physically and mentally – I just have to try to hang on to that feeling! I totally agree, we have to try to get the balance right don’t we. I hope that you had a great trip and can relax and recuperate before everything kicks off again 🙂

It’s nice to take that time off for yourself before routine kicks in again. 🙂
