My Answers

HOW MANY LANGUAGES DO YOU SPEAK? AND WHICH LANGUAGES?

Only one fluently!  I did study French many moons ago, but I haven’t used it and as they say, use it or lose it! I hope that the knowledge is still tucked away somewhere deep in my brain though.  I try to learn a little of the language of any country I visit, even if it’s just hello, goodbye, please and thank you.  I do try and learn numbers if I can too, I have learnt that having those skills helps a lot when trying to haggle in SE Asia!

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE TIPPLE?

A nice glass of white wine on a warm day…or a vodka and tonic (good tonic with a twist of lime!).  I have recently been introduced to G&T, which I is actually very refreshing. Or a good cocktail….!  Ok, that’s making me sound like I have a problem 🙂

DID YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE SUBJECT AT SCHOOL (IF YOU ARE HISTORIANRUBY – DID YOU HAVE A SECOND FAVOURITE SUBJECT AT SCHOOL?)

I did love art at school and managed to get through to A Level with it, but gave it up after that.  I also loved history when I was younger but I didn’t like what we were taught at school, so gave up on it early on…that I do regret.

DO YOU EVER FEEL DISCOURAGED ABOUT BLOGGING?  WHAT DO YOU DO TO KEEP YOURSELF MOTIVATED?

All the time! I struggle to write sometimes and can’t seem to think of anything to say, or anything that I think people will want to read!  I can struggle to find the time and energy as well, which is frustrating.  Even so I try to make myself write, even if I don’t feel like it.  The words may not go anywhere, or they become my next post, you just never know!

WHAT IS YOUR OWN FAVOURITE POST FROM YOUR SITE OR THE ONE YOU WOULD RECOMMEND READERS CHECK OUT FIRST?

Ooo now that’s a good question!  I would probably recommend that readers start with my ‘About’ page, which I hope explains a bit about why I started the blog and where the name came from.  According to my stats though, these are my top two posts:

Finding Serenity in Hpa-An

Finding My Happy Place

And as for my favourite post, that’s tough.  I’ve really enjoyed writing about my time in Myanmar, it was a massive travel goal of mine and I still have to pinch myself to believe I’ve been there.  These two posts I particularly enjoyed writing, they are experiences I will never forget:

Living the Dream in Mawlamyine

Exploring Inle Lake

DO YOU ENJOY CAMPING OUT IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS?

I haven’t been camping for years!  Although, funnily enough I did mention to my partner recently that I’d like to go – only for a night or two though! Not sure I could cope with more than that!

DO YOU ENJOY PLAYING OR WATCHING SPORT?  IF SO, WHICH SPORTS?

I do NOT enjoy playing sport…but I love watching it 🙂  I absolutely love tennis and I am off to Wimbledon again this year, I can’t wait!  I have been going since 1991 whenever I have been able to get hold of tickets and have seen some of the most amazing matches there – the best I think , Heather Watson V Serena Williams, where Watson almost knocked Williams out! I’ve been lucky enough to witness some fantastic matches on Centre Court over the years, but the atmosphere for that match was like nothing else I’ve ever experienced!!

I also love Formula One and have been lucky enough to go to a few grand prix.

DO YOUR FRIENDS KNOW ABOUT YOUR BLOG SITE?

Some do and some don’t. I haven’t really spread the word that I’m doing this, as I wanted to see how it went first.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING MEMORY OR EXPERIENCE?

Well, that would be too embarrassing to share here! 🙂

WILL BLOGGING EVER BE THE SAME WITHOUT THE DAILY POST PROVISIONS?

No! I am missing the Daily Post and their challenges and prompts.  It feels like a huge section of the community has just upped an left.  I need to get involved with some of the other challenges that are out there, but I just haven’t gotten round to it yet.  Any suggestions of prompts/challenges out there would be greatly appreciated!

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE PERFECT DAY – WHERE WOULD IT BE? WHO WOULD YOU BE WITH? WHAT WOULD YOU EAT?  (That is several questions rolled into one – but we would love to know what would make a perfect day to you.

Another interesting question!  Hmmm, well it would be warm, there would hopefully be sand and sea involved.  I wouldn’t need to worry about getting up for work in the morning and I’d end it by looking out at a beautiful sunset. I’d be sharing a meal with my partner somewhere chilled, he’d be drinking a beer and I’d be having a glass of wine. We’d be sat outside, where we could see the ocean. It wouldn’t have to be fancy either, just a nice beachside restaurant or cafe…OK my imagination is running away with me now!

  1. Congratulations and thank you so much for the nomination. Having participated in the award before, I thought I’d answer a few of your questions here. My favourite artist would have to be Van Gogh, I simply admire Stary Night. I don’t particularly have a favourite show, but I am addicted to the series The Handmaids Tale at the moment. I am definitely a sunseeker, and I love both sweet and savoury (sorry, can’t pick one) and I hope my blog will lead me to someday write my own cookbook.
Thank you again for the recognition and all the best to you too with your blog. Xx

    1. It’s my pleasure, I love reading your blog! Thank you for taking the time to respond here as well. Great answers! I’m with you with Van Gogh and I do love Monet as well. I haven’t seen any of The Handmaids Tale yet, I’ve heard it’s excellent but a hard watch sometimes. And wow, a cookbook? That sounds amazing, I hope that dream comes true for you! Thanks again for responding and I look forward to reading more of your posts 🙂

  2. Loved reading your answers My Dusty Flipflops. I so agree with what you said about the Daily Post provisions…blogging does seem just a bit quieter now doesn’t it. You made me laugh with your reply to the question about your favourite tipple. Your perfect day sounds truly perfect. I remember seeing a little of that match with Watson v Williams on TV – that must have been electric to be there.

  3. Thank you for the nomination!
G&T is good. I think I should create a club, because I seem to be reading often about how people like gin & tonic.
I’m not a tennis fanatic, but imagine it must be REALLY cool to see Wimbledon every year.
And about blogging struggles – we’re in the same boat. Sometimes I look at others, who post every day, a few times a day, and I just wonder…

    1. My pleasure! G&T does seem to be very popular at the moment – I am enjoying trying out all the different varieties you can get these days 🙂 I do just love Wimbledon and I’ve just been again to it at the weekend – blog post to follow about my experience! It’s good to know that I’m not alone with blogging struggles. It can be hard not to compare and contrast with others!
